How do you prepare for Category 4 Hurricane Helene in federal prison?

The staff gives you enough peanut butter and muffins for 3 meals, boards up the windows, turns off phones and messages, directs us to pack a to-go bag "just in case" and then gives everyone a final warning to stay sober because help won't come. We all wondered what "just in case" meant as we prepared for the hurricane in the ways that we could. For some that looked like packing their medicine and photos, for others that meant 3 duffle bags full of everything.

And for myself? I packed a small bag of necessities and then went to work on making a prison cake.
